Even after After bombing gassing and starving people out of the biggest cities in Syria , the west is just a bystander. Half a million people have died and millions are displaced. Most of the refugees are Sunni Arabs who make up most of the Syrian pre-war population of 23 million. many more of them will be pushed out as Mr Assas moves to retake Sunni rebels areas in the north and south west of Syria. It is believed that he is trying to chalk out people who are not from his sect ie Shia.
Like the Palestinians before these people could again become a destabilizing presence across the middle east. Assad has convinced the minority group to rally behind him and has their support. Syrian forces have used chemical weapons in the name of fighting terrorism. Trump says he has no interest in Syria. Once his troops have smashed IS they will leave. Letting Russia and Iran handle the situation will be very shortsighted.
People had fled or were pushed out by nascent Israel in 1947-48. These people helped ignited Arab Israeli war in 1967. Syrian refugees who are more numerous than the 750K Palestinians uprooted during the birth of Israel can become radicalized. They will be very easy prey for jihadists . As we speak these refugees without violence are already a strain on countries like Jordan , Lebanon and Turkey. If these people were to start forming terror groups their countries will be in ruins like Iraq. There is a lesson learnt from history that the longer refugees stay out , the less likely they are to return.
